The accuracy and interobserver variability of roentgenographic analysis for cardiac size in patients dying with chronic bronchitis and pulmonary emphysema were correlated with pathologic data derived from special studies. Three trained observers were able to accurately and consistently diagnose chronic bronchitis and pulmonary emphysema and to detect cardiomegaly on the chest xray film.
